London was once a Roman City known as Londinium. There are few existing remains of the ancient city, but one of the best is The Mithras City Temple, also known as London Mithraeum.
The Mithras City Temple is the 1800 year old remains of a Roman Temple built to worship the god Mithras.
Open to the public since November 2017, the temple is located in the basement of the European headquarters of Bloomberg, near Mansion House, in Central London.
The ancient Roman ruins have been enhanced with elaborate light and sound effects to give visitors a sense of what ceremonies were like in the Mithras temple almost two millennia ago.
Alongside the Mithras temple ruins are on display almost 600 Roman items, including the oldest hand-written document found in Britain. All uncovered at the site when the temple was discovered in 1954.
